There is an oiler removal tool available for you to use, to both remove and properly replace the spring you are referring to.
Although your chainsaw has the McCulloch color and logo, its manufacturer is the same as Husqvarna, Craftsman, Poulan, AYP, etc.
The part numbers for the tool are 530031166. You can purchase this tool from any small engine repair center, who are authorized Husqvarna, Poulan, or AYP dealers. You can also see an image of this tool, and purchase it online, in the link below.

This is the tool I use for this purpose, in order to properly align the spring, to prevent damage to the new oil pump. I am also attaching a link to a video that shows you how to use this tool.
