pulled off ignition and used wire to contact the the female plug to see if i could get it to start that way on my craftsman lawn tractor. i believed i shorted something out because now it won't start. it would start before by using a screwdriver on the starter. what did i do?

You blew the ignition fuse. Located on the wire coming off the starter solenoid going to the keyswitch.

is that a 20 amp fuse

already changed it. still doesn't run

Payment failed. Do you have a voltmeter to check for power past the fuse? Do you get the fuel solenoid click when you flip key on and off? If not, there is no voltage to the keyswitch. And the voltage comes direct through the fuse.
