I have a 22 horse,briggs inteck engine. New battery, took starter apart, cleaned and lubed bearings. Enging cranks sometimes, sometimes not. If there is a compression release, it is not working. If you turn the engine by hand it will usually then start. once running it runs strong.

Sounds like the valves may need a little adjusting. They are a little off possibly and not opening/closing at the proper times, so when you get to the compression stroke, it stalls the crank
