Does your engine smoke when it is running?
Is the smoke constant?
Is the oil level in your crankcase correct? Check to see if your oil smell like gas is mixed in with it.
Thanks for this information ...
If your oil smells like gas, this indicates that your oil is diluted because of the gas. This can cause smoke. I would change the engine oil, and fill to correct level.

Let's start with the oil change, then go from here.
Your carburetor could be slightly flooding due to either the needle and seat in your carburetor not properly sealing, a partially sticking float in your carburetor, dirty air filter, bad spark plugs, etc.
Awesome! I am glad your mower is ok now. The oil/gas mix is very likely the reason for the smoke you noticed. Thank you for letting me know. I do hope all continues to go well for you.
