Honda HRT216 S3DA. New transmission, carb, cables, spark

Customer Question

Honda HRT216 S3DA. New transmission, carb, cables, spark plug and coil. Ran ok (with a very slight surge) for a mowing but now it is kind of finicky on start, finally runs (mostly with choke) then after about 2 minutes stalls out and is hard to start. Thanks
JA: Do you have fuel in the tank? If so, is the shut-off valve open and the fuel clean?
Customer: New tank with shutoff open as well.
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Yes I have already done all the work so far
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: ?
JA: What confuses you?
Customer: I have stated everything I have done to the mower.

Great any thoughts as to the problem?
Expert:  Donald replied 11 months ago.

Thanks for your reply. I have a couple of troubleshooting question for you. Did you clean your fuel tank prior to putting on your new carburetor? Are you using fresh, newly purchased gas?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
New gas tank and shutoff.

new gas yes

Ok ...

Expert:  Donald replied 11 months ago.

You stated that you noticed a slight surging, and you have to partially choke your carburetor. This usually indicates that your carburetor is starving for fuel. Although your carburetor is new, it is possible that your main jet is partially clogged.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
That was my thought but it is all new. I will pull the carb this evening and blow out the jet and such and try again. I will let you know the results. Thanks

You are very welcome! I do hope all goes well for you. I will look forward to knowing your results.
