I have an Ariens Garden Tractor (circa 1991) 931033 w/Kohler

Customer Question

I have an Ariens Garden Tractor (circa 1991) 931033 w/Kohler M18s-ps-24513 engine. Hard start problem started when fuel hose to tank deteriorated (sucking air). Replaced new tank hose, fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter. When I get started, it runs but runs rough. Intake manifold shows condensation near carburetor. Once shut off, it will not restart. The exhaust shows smoke when trying to restart which indicates no air flow(??). I have a feeling that the carburetor ingested dirt but can not find a replacement. Is there a published instruction set to uninstall carburetor for the purpose of cleaning/rebuild? Just wanted some advise prior to ripping the machine apart. (also tested fuel pump which seems to work OK).

With M18, and having deteriorated fuel lines, the carburetor inlet is likley plugged with debris from old fuel line. The float and needle valve need to be removed and the inlet line removed, and this passage needs ro be blown out backwards, with carburetor cleaner or air, to clear the passage of any debris. Let me attach service manual link for the M18.
