I have a honda mower. when i spray starter fluid directly

i have a honda mower. when i spray starter fluid directly into the carb, it runs. but i cannot get it to run at all with gas alone from the tank

It sounds like the main fuel jet may be stopped up. If you will remove the bowl from the bottom of the carburetor and look up through the stem you will find the main jet and fuel nozzle. Remove both of these and thoroughly clean them make certain to clean all of the small holes in both of them. This should solve you issue.
