Customer Question

I have a 5 hp Quantum vertical shaft B & S engine. I have no spark. I took off fly wheel, checked key, cleaned off rust on flywheel magnets, checked gap. Put on new coil from B & S and a new spark plug. Still no spark. Is it possible to put the coil on upside down? and cause it not to give a spark? Any other suggestions? Brad
JA: Can you guesstimate how old the engine is? And has it done anything like this in the past?
Customer: I' m guessing it is from 90's? It hasn't been used for a few years.
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Yes, I was working on it today since I got the coil, late yeasterday
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: This seems weird to me. I am open to ideas
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Small Engine Technician about your situation and then connect you two.

Did you remove the kill wire from the coil and test? All that makes the spark is the coil and the magnet in the flywheel. And I have never seen a bad magnet!

I removed the kill wire. Can the coil be put on upside down? Would that possibly cause a problem? Don't think I did but am wondering

It can be mounted wrong, worth trying! Before getting another coil!

No I will try that but I thought of that on my own and I don't think you gave me any other ideas
