This is a common problem for a starter solenoid being stuck

What's happening is once the key is turned to start the engine the solenoid sends power to the starter . It should stop once the key is released from start and in the on position
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
Yours isn't so the starter keeps running .
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
To locate the solenoid trace the big red cable that's bolted to the starter back and the other end is bolted to the solenoid
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
If you locate the solenoid with the starter running disconnect the white wire from the some no I'd , it will be the one that clips on , if the starter stops the ignition switch is bad , if it doesn't the solenoid is bad
