Engine has stator/alternator under the flywheel. Unplug the harness from the voltage regulator, and use voltmeter set on AC volts to read the two end connections, which is the stator output. Run engine at speed and read the meter, If stator is good, reading needs to be above 28 volts AC. If it is ,plug it back to the regulator, set meter on DC, and read the center post of the regulator, which should be battery voltage at all times and stator output when engine is running at speed.. Or 14 volts DC. If not and stator was good, replace the regulator.
