As soon as the drive gear is engaged without the blades operating.

Ok are the pulleys free. , nothing seized up or smoking ?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No, everything is free and moving
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
If it's just dying from being put under any load ot could very well be the carburetor , some times they are partially blocked and will run fine with no load but struggle and surge under a load , have you removed the air filter to see if that makes a difference
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes and pulled the carberator and cleaned it
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
Was the carburetor originally gummed up ?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Not really, put new gas in also
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
Was it running at all prior to cleaning it ? , also how did you clean it ? Did you spray it out with gumout carburetor cleaner
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Was not , drained old gas cleaned everything. Runs great until under load , even at high rpm
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
Ok , did it have a walbro or nikki carb , the nikki carbs have the white plastic float and white plastic hinge the float mounts to etc ? . It sounds like it's was cleaned enough to run but is still blocked so it can't pick up rps under a load . Do you have some gumout carburetor cleaner
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes, will try for the third time
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
Try removing everything and boiling the carb in a old pot of water for 4 minutes or so then spray it out with gumout carburetor cleaner
Expert:  Briggs-Fan replied 1 year ago.
This is the nikki carburetor http://outdoorpowerinfo.com/repairs/briggs_intek_single_ohv_nikki_carb.asp
