I doubt carburetor will cause backfire, I would want to check the valve clearance (lash) .004 on intake and exhaust, with piston at top dead cylinder. Spark plugs at .028 inch gap.

OK, anyway how do we tune engine, carburetor mainly, find idle speed golf cart that auto stops with no accelerator pedal.

Carburetor has no adjustment other than the idle screw. Which is screwed in and out and basicly serves o purpose on golf cart, as it kills when it comes to back to idle position. As I said before, your tune up should consist of valve adjustment and a new spark plug.

Did full twelve month service, changed spark plug 28 thou - not prepared to infiltrate engine yet. now seeing how it goes.
