I purchased a 2008 deere z445 equipped with a 25 hp v twin

Customer Question

i purchased a 2008 john deere z445 equipped with a 25 hp v twin kawasaki. i managed to make it start with a stream of starting fluid, but it would not run on its own. no smoking. ran smooth on the ether. i purchased a new carburetor and have installed it, replaced the spark plugs, replaced the fuel line with a new filter, vacuumed the fuel tank of all old fuel. ready to try it out....noticed a pool of oil in the shield under the muffler. looks like the oil is leaking from inside the muffler and collecting in the shield. there was oil in the crankcase when i attempted to start pre new carb, now the dipstick is dry. wondering if i need to pop the head off and check the valve guide seals (this mower has been sitting for over a year) 296 hrs showing on the pretty good shape. not abused that i can tell. maybe the piston rings are stuck...any ideas and a sequence of things to check are desired.

You stated that you noticed a pool of oil in the shield under your muffler. Have you checked to see if your oil smell like it have gas mixed in with it?

Did you check the oil level on your dipstick, prior to starting your mower, for the first time, using the ether?
