I have a 2004 vanguard 31. New starter. When I go to start

Customer Question

I have a 2004 vanguard 31. New starter. When I go to start the engine, the solenoid clicks and the ground sparks. I have the ground wire connected to the block from the battery. All connections are tight and battery is new and fully charged. Bad ground?

Can you turn engine manually? If engine is not locked up, then bad ground.

You should get no sparks even if engine was locked, so bad ground or cable.

It will turn manually. Will use ohm meter and check cable first for continuity. If it good, just find new place to ground?

Yes or find out why it is loose!

That suckered is tight at both ends. Been so long being able to work on an engine of any kind, lost my mojo. Figured the ground went bad, just wanted clarification before I go out there in this oven to work on it

OK, bolt may need washer under it!
