looks as though I am missug an additional part. the silver flat piece seems to be part of the spring assembly allowing for easy atacchment?
Expert:  Donald replied 2 years ago.
You assembly may not be 100% the same as the assembly in the image.
Expert:  Donald replied 2 years ago.
You will know for sure after you have gained access to your assembly.
Expert:  Donald replied 2 years ago.
Yes are correct. You will need to remove your fenders, and your seat housing, in order to replace your spring. I suggest that you make notes, and take pictures as you go. This will make re-assembly a lot easier.

I will take a look.

Thanks for the image. The mower in my service manual have an additional part, that was not included on your mower. The actual parts will vary, based upon your actual model numbers, and the year of manufacture.
Expert:  Donald replied 2 years ago.
I checked your actual parts list, and that part is not included.

how sure are you I have to pull fendors and seat deck to attach spring?
Expert:  Donald replied 2 years ago.
Click on the link above. That is how you actual part should look.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
they are separate parts. The first image you sent is more like it without the silver piece.
Expert:  Donald replied 2 years ago.
I have a cub cadet in my shop, I can take a look at it just to be sure. The Cub Cadet and your Troy-Bilt will be the same.
Expert:  Donald replied 2 years ago.
Can you give me just a minute or two to check this for you?

I am back. I am 95% sure. If your mower was in my shop, I would definitely remove the fenders, and lift up the seat housing. This would give me more room to work, and a clear view of what I am doing.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
ok do you think it is missing parts and should look like the assembly you sent my as opposed to the picture of what mine looks like now. Am I missing the silver piece shown in you picture?
Expert:  Donald replied 2 years ago.
Actually the first image I sent you, is from my shop service manual. I sent you that image just to confirm that you were referring to that particular spring. A shop service manual does not always cover specific individual mowers, but cover mowers in model series, that share the same basic parts. This means that some parts shown in a service manual, may or may not be included on all mowers in this series.
Expert:  Donald replied 2 years ago.
According to the parts list I pulled up for your mower, you mower does not have the silver part.
