5 hp craftsman /shredder. Just removed carb and tank,

Customer Question

5 hp craftsman chipper/shredder. Just removed carb and tank, installed new pump gasket. re-assembled. Plug clean .031" gap. Verified choke off when in choke off position. Starts right off but in no-choke, throttle fast position symptoms are:
1. very slow firing then surges to higher rpm briefly, sounds like dying then catches back to very slow firing, surges to higher rpm briefly, repeats continuously.
2. when catching at slow firing after higher rpm briefly, exhaust is black until it clears during higher rpm briefly part of cycle.
3. obviously no power to operate correctly.

Hi my name is ***** ***** welcome to just answer, when you removed the carb and tank did you clean the carburetor out? If so did you use a spray carburetor cleaner?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
No. I didn't. I guess I should have. How do you do it just disassemble and use the spray cleaner and compressed air?
