2006 hustler super z lawn mower. I replaced the starter and solenoid. When i hooked up the starter the starter engaged. I cant figure out what is energizing the starter.

Was this the reason starter and solenoid were replaced? Remove one of the small wires on the solenoid, does it now engage? Do you have a voltmeter to test with? Is there voltage at the switch wire at the solenoid, the one you just removed? Should have voltage only when key is turned to start!
