My Kohler 17.5 hp CV490s engine on my Craftsman riding mower

Customer Question

My Kohler 17.5 hp CV490s engine on my Craftsman riding mower won't start.
It had leaking fuel issue to start with. When I cranked the engine, it did not start but had a loud exploding noise (like a gun shot)from exhaust down under in the front.
After that, I could not start the engine at all.
Changed engine oil, spark plug,
rebuilt carburetor with Kohler Cab kit.
Checked fuel flow, spark plug, and Cab. All seems working fine.
Still could not start the engine.
Any other options or ideas?
Appreciate any help.

One possibility is that the flywheel key may be sheared and it is throwing to timing off. Remove the flywheel and check the key. If it is bent or sheared at all, then replace it and you should be good to go.
Another issue could be that the ignition coil may have gone bad and may need replaced. It may fe firing out of time.
If this is not the problem. feel free to contact me here again and we will discuss the issue further.
