Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !! Belt starts loose and when engine speed is increased, the drive clutch has to close down on it, and as the driven clutch speed increases , it does the same. There are no gears, just two variable pulleys. Either of the pulleys, drive or driven can be bad.

ok any ideas why it is so slow i mean this thing is crawling and was not able to climb back up drive way in reverse had to be pushed

Is the engine running at high rpm? Or just idling? Is the drive clutch collapsing the pulley? If not, replace the drive clutch.
