gas pressure washer engine won't build rpm as high as last year. it will start, but when water is run into it and the wand is activated it has very little pressure. when i let go of the wand trigger, the engine dies

sounds to me like your pump may be failing or have failed. if you didnt winterize it or make sure all the water was out and it froze over the winter this is the most common cause. or a seal failed and the pump lost its oil. possible also that the pump is fine and the pressure relief valve is sticking. some are removable and cleanable but some arent.
