Lawn mower cranks but seems to flood out and releases lots of black smoke

This sounds like a carburetor that is flooding because of dirt in the carb or the needle and seat are not seating.
WHen this happens, gas gets into the oil and starts it blowing black smoke.
It is also blowing black smoke because it is getting too much gas.
First you need to take the carburetor off and rebuild it with a COMPLETE carburetor repair kit that includes the new needle and seat.
Then change the oil and replace the AIR FILTER which may also be dirty or plugged with gas or oil.
Reassemble and try running it. This should take care of the trouble.
IF not, then you most likely have a bad carburetor that may need to be replaced.
