Customer Question

I have a craftsman lt 4000 riding lawn mower. While mowing, I had just stopped and the machine will not move in forward or reverse. I jacked the rear end up and put the machine in forward and reverse and it would work. As soon as you put tension or resistance on the rear wheels the wheels would stop. You could stop it with hardly any pressure. Is this a transmission problem? There are no leaks and the machine is in good shape. Help. Email ***@******.***

Welcome to JUST ANSWER small engines, let me try to help you !! Check the tension on the drive belt, the one above the deck drive pulley. You will likely find the belt loose and slopping on the pulleys. Either belt has come off a pulley, or the tension spring has broken or come loose. The spring has to keep the idler tight against the drive belt for it to work! I need the model number example###-##-####from under the seat to find the right parts list. Or look in the owners manual.
