My lawnmower is smoking and sputtering. I think I may have

Resolved Question:

My lawnmower is smoking and sputtering. I think I may have overfilled the oil container. Where is the drain plug on the Briggs and Stratton engine?

Hi, My name isXXXXX you for letting me try and assist you with your problem.
Some don't have a drain plug.
If there is one it's under the mower on the bottom of the engine.
if there's not what you're supposed to do is get a container, remove the oil fill and flip the mower up on it's top to drain the oil out of the fill tube.
It's kind of a pain but that how some of these are engineered.
Since you say you overfilled it you wouldn't have to drain it all. Just enough to get it in check again.

Would overfilling the oil container cause the mower to smoke and sputter and lose power?

Expert:  Jeremy R. replied 5 years ago.
Yes, it sure will.
the crankcase vent will push the excess oil into the intake and the motor will be forced to burn it and it's not meant to be burnt so that's where the smoke and sputtering and loss of power comes from.
