Shredding or Breaking thread generally means that at SOME point along the trail, there is a burr or rough edge.... ensure...
• New Needle
• Check for Needlestrike/s on Needleplate and Bobbin case and Tip of Hook
• Is the thread of good quality and not old and deteriorated ?
• Can you determine WHERE the shredding/breaking is happening by watching ?
• Thread imbalance is due to Tension .... there is likely some lint trapped in the bobbin or top tension
