My very old KitchenAid mixer (model T-77720-A) speed lever

This answer was rated:

My very old KitchenAid mixer (model T-77720-A) speed lever does not work. Regardless of the position I set it at, it goes full throttle. Can I fix this?
Hello, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I am here to assist you. Okay look carefully and does your mixer have number such as K45 or KSM or any number that starts with a K? If so that is the real model number and I need that number please.

Okay great and sorry about the delay. Now, are you pretty handy and do you feel if given the proper resources you can fix this yourself? It is not very difficult at all.
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Three stars so far. Yes, I think I could fix this myself.

Okay, when you turn the mixer on does it automatically go to the high mode? Can you feel the speed lever clicking through each number?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Yes, when I turn on the mixer it automatically goes to the high mode and I can feel the speed lever clicking through each number.

I just brought the mixer into our office so I can now answer more quickly.

Three stars.

Okay, just a sec and let me pull up the info for you.

Three stars. I'll be waiting for the information.

Okay, your problem is not the speed lever which is working correctly, The actual problem is the circuit/speed control board. Now don't worry it is very easy and inexpensive to replace. I am sending you 2 links so just copy and paste them to your browser to open them up. The first shows you what the board looks like and where to get the board. It is a place called and it is where I get all my parts for small appliances. The second link give you a video to show you exactly how to replace the board. Once you view it you will see how easy it is to do it yourself. I am here for further assistance and thank you for your time and patience, Randy.

I got the part from Goodmans, the circuit board, and watched the video. I could have easily installed it. However, my mixer is apparently much older and does not have a removable circuit board. Do you have any suggestions? Kathy
Okay, first sorry about that and you can return the part for refund. Now, after the K45 there should be some more number and or letters. Can you please send them as the is the complete model number.
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

There are no numbers or letters after K45. After doing a search online, I think it is described as a KitchenAid Hobart Vintage K45 250 watt mixer. I cannot find any serial number other than the letters and numbers stamped on the bottom of the mixer that I gave you earlier: T77720-A. Others online also asked about the T77720-A combination.

Thank you for responding.

Three stars.

Okay, my error there were 2 versions of the K45 made. The version you have is the older style vice the newer style. I am sending you 2 links and again just copy a paste them in your browser. The first shows you the speed control plate and also if you look at the bottom it tells you how to adjust the plate as that might be the only thing wrong. The second is the speed control phase board that works with the plate that works hand in hand with the plate. If you need to order the plate you can get that at goodmans also. Just call them and let them know about the return. Again, I do appreciate your time and patience and do please get back with me, Randy.

PS Here is the service manual for your mixer just for future reference as I see you really want to keep this great mixer for a long time.

I thought I sent a reply but it is not recorded. Thank you for trying to help me with my mixer. My husband and I gave it to my mother-in-law many years ago. After both she and then my father-in-law died we inherited it.

A snap in circuit board will not work. I checked the manual photo or picture with my mixer and they are not the same. I have a call into a repair center about 300 miles away to see if it is worth mailing the mixer and having it repaired.

Thank you for your efforts in my behalf. However, I notice on my credit card account I have already been charged for about $71.00. This is turning into a very expensive service which I will call to discuss with a service representative.

Followup--I was in error. It was the contracted $38.00. We will both be relieved this has come to a conclusion

Thank immensely for the update and I was wondering what happen since it told me that we had "timed out" on our conversation. Wish I could have been a better help and I do appreciate your extreme patience. Please send me an update with whatever the results may be, Randy.
