M-commerce is the same as as e-commerce, only business is transacted on handheld mobile devices. Both bookstores utilize M-Commerce, but perhaps Amazon has the most advanced mobile commerce platform.

Amazon sells hundreds of thousands of book titles and delivers them immediately via their Kindle devices. Customers without a Kindle can purchase these titles on their PCs, smartphones, and tablets using various apps.

Barnes and Nobles has a mobile platform for its store, where customers can search for items based on a photo of the item they are looking for. The bookseller simplified the mobile purchasing process by syncing the mobile app with the e-commerce site back-end. This greatly streamlines the checkout process. Users who already have an account with enter their e-mail address and password XXXXX sign in and access their account information and address book. Shoppers who do not already have a account can create one on the e-commerce site and then sync the app with the account.

Both Amazon and Barnes and Nobles impact the m-commerce industry through offering tablets for a portion of the price of the famed Apple iPad. According to Internet, ", No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, and Barnes & Noble, No. 41, have expanded the market for tablets in the U.S. by launching their tablets at significantly lower prices than the iPad, Epps adds. The base model of the iPad 3 costs $499, while the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet cost $199."

Like Amazon, Barnes and Nobles has an eReader application for smartphones and tablets, so that customers who do not have a Nook can purchase books from their mobile store and have them delivered immediately.

The advantages of M-Commerce include being able to shop from anywhere, instant gratification from instantly downloaded books, and low cost access to internet for all. The disadvantages of mcommerce include spamming and security issues, and roaming costs.
