This is what my professor JUST POSTED!

"Attached to this announcement you will find an outline of the paper for this week to help you as you organize your thoughts. I have also included an example of a thesis statement you can use. Please let me know if you have any questions. While you might not find ELLs to be a topic you like, I can assure you that the other topics are incredibly difficult to write an accurate paper about. Since I want you to score well on the paper, I'm REQUIRING that everyone write on the ELL topic. I had six students in a recent term who tried to write on one of the other topics and they all got Fs on their paper because they did not meet the requirements.
