Customer Question
Have a 2001 LW300...

Have a 2001 LW300 will crank over but not fire. Tach does not move at all when i crank it. serpentine drive belt does move when i crank it . Service motor soon light is also on

Mechanic's Assistant: What shape is the drive belt in? Do you know if it needs to be replaced, or just adjusted?

Drive belt is new.. also behaves like it is flooded when i crank it.. plus their is a TSB on my motor and year

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your LW300 yourself? What have you tried so far?

I believe the the main v6 might be at fault relay in the fuse box under the hood

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Since that is the TSB is on as well

No i said the car will crank but not fire! Tac does not move when i try to crank it.... the belt doses move when i crank it
Saturn Mechanic: Ronnie, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

Okay thank you for the clarification, Have you scanned the computer to see what code is set when the service engine light is on?

Ask Your Own Saturn Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
do not have a computer to plug into the port in the car
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
i had to be towed home.. yesterday
Saturn Mechanic: Ronnie, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

I suspect because you have no Tack signal that you likely have a failing crankshaft position sensor which will cause a no start as well but before you start replacing any parts you need to see what the fault code is that setting.

only 66 thousand miles on vehicle .. owned by father in law who brought vehicle new.. was kept in the garage at night
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
vehicle acted like it was flooded when i did turn it over after a few times... the tach on the dash did not move at all..
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
which might tell me no juce to the curcity
Saturn Mechanic: Ronnie, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

Okay but I still suspect you may have a bad crankshaft position sensor, the Tack gets is signal from the crank sensor. A code scan would verify if in fact that is the case.

Ask Your Own Saturn Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
ok where is the sensor located? i can check with my Ohm meter
Saturn Mechanic: Ronnie, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

The sensor is located on the lower left front of the engine at the crankshaft. See the link below.

Customer reply replied 3 months ago
what about the TSB on the mail V6 Relay?
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Main V6 Relay
Saturn Mechanic: Ronnie, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

The sensor is tested with a volt meter to see if is producing a output voltage while cranking. It should be 1.0 volts AC. There is no TSB that applies to the main relay on your 2001, if it was failing you would usually not see a service engine light on.

what about this TSB? I have this motor in my vehicle All 2000 L-Series Sedans and Wagons built before VIN YY630765 equipped with V6 (RPO L81) enginesConditionSome customers may comment the engine intermittently cranks but will not start and Service Engine Soon telltale is illuminate.
