Since both fans are working, try cleaning the radiator and condenser cooling fins. Take the fans out, then with a garden hose, if you can separate the condenser and radiator and spray from the engine towards the front. Sometimes the fins get so filled up with dirt the fans can't get enough air through them to cool the freon and hot antifreeze. The result is the pressure building up in the system and the compressor turning off. I have had a great deal of success just cleaning all the junk out of the fins. I see this most often when it won't cool at idle, but going down the road isn't a problem.Just Answer does not compensate me for my time and resources, so please rate my answer by using the stars at the top of the page. condensor coil was changed 2 years ago. should the car idle up with ac on
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
radiator and coil were cleaned
Expert:  Mike V. replied 5 months ago.

It will only idle up minimally, maybe 100-200 rpms to take on the load of the compressor kicking on.
I would suggest since the other stuff has been down, you have a set of gauges on it and see how high the pressure gets at idle. If it's getting to high then the pressure switch is turning it off.
If it turning off even with low pressure, the switch is probably no good.

it doesnt idle up
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
idle up 200 rpms it cools great
go figure
85 degree day 43-48 265 at idle
Expert:  Mike V. replied 5 months ago.

The PCM should make it idle up. Give me a couple minutes to see if there is anything else that would cause it.
What model is it?

Expert:  Mike V. replied 5 months ago.

Those pressures are really good, what do they go to when you idle it up a couple hundred?

04 saturn vue awd 3.5 v6
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
suction drops6-10 lbs head pressure rises at 275 high speed fan comes on
head pressure stablizes
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
other than idle ac will blow you out of there 42-45 degrees
Expert:  Mike V. replied 5 months ago.

Ok, let me check and see if I can find any info on the fan. Seems when that comes on the car cools. I don't understand how it's not blowing cold at idle with the low pressure running around 45 lbs at idle. It should still be coming out of the vent around 50 degrees or so

Expert:  Mike V. replied 5 months ago.

How hot is the air coming out at idle?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
suction rises slowly. even with both fans on until you idle it up
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
slowly rises as it idles
Expert:  Mike V. replied 5 months ago.

So is the compressor going off at idle? or is it still running and losing suction?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
continuously running
Expert:  Mike V. replied 5 months ago.

Sounds more like a compressor issue. I don't see anything to indicate that the engine speed should increase although I figured it would just for the load. Are you certain it's not over charged? That's the other thing that could cause it, I realize I am not talking to a rookie here, but like I said, it's all controlled via the computer but still, don't see anything that says the idle will increase when the compressor kicks on

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
we weighed it in

uhm
Expert:  Mike V. replied 5 months ago.

I believe you are going to need another compressor if it's giving you this problem.
I will open this up for the other experts.
Please don't reply or it will lock it to me.

The cooling fan doesn't come on unless you rev the engine?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Cooling fan comes on but it starts cooling when you rev the engine a couple to three hundred rpm's
Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Moving or sitting still. That's why I was wondering if the engine should idle up with Ac on
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 5 months ago.

Nothing has been replaced to try to repair this issue?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Everything but compressor or whatever controls idle. Cools fine with engine reved up 200 or more rpms. Just doesn't cool at idle. If the engine reved just alittle at idle I wouldn't know there was a problem
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 5 months ago.

What specific components have been replaced and where did they come from?

All parts were replaced in an attempt to fix this problem?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Expansion valve was. Radiator fan cause it was bad. Condensor coil cause of a small front end wreck
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 5 months ago.

You said that the condenser was replaced two years ago. It was replaced again now?
