I just replaced the fuel pump. Now the car doesn't want to

Customer Question

I just replaced the fuel pump. Now the car doesn't want to run, missing bad and won't stay running.
JA: Have you ever replaced the fuel pump, or is this the original?
Customer: I don't know if it was the original pump, I bought the car with 128,000 miles. It lost all power and died. Had no fuel pressure so I replaced the pump. Now it has fuel pressure but will not run.
JA: What is the model/year of your Saturn?
Customer: 1997 SL2
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes. I changed the plugs but that didn't help. Before I changed the pump it would start and run fine until it ran out of fuel. I have not tried anything else. Where should I start?
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: That is all the info I have.

Is the check engine light on?

Are there any codes in the computer?

Has the tune up parts been replaced?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
No light.
No codes.
Replaced the spark plugs.
Expert:  Amedee replied 7 months ago.

Have you checked the engine compression? If not this would be your next step.

Another possible cause would be an air or a vacuum leak or plugged/restricted or leaking fuel injectors.

Some other possible causes would be..

Throttle position sensor

MAP sensor

Air or vacuum leak

Bad gas (unless it has fresh new gas)

Crankshaft position sensor

Ignition module
