Customer Question

Heater only working when accelerating - also slight squeaking sound when engine started cold
JA: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?
Customer: noise sounds like a belt slip. Has been going on for a month or two. Heat issues just started this am.
JA: What is the model/year of your Saturn?
Customer: 2009 vue awd
JA: Are you fixing your VUE yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: no, problem with heat just started this am. Worked fine yesterday.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: The light flashes when I try to turn on the ac. That also just started this am.

Hi Im David, thanks for visiting the site. there can be a few things that can cause this. 1. check the coolant level, make sure its full 2. there can be air pockets in the cooling system. Has any work been done on the car lately? what does the temp gauge get up to while the car is just sitting there running?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
No temperature gauge. Just a engine hot light which is not on. No recent work.

check the coolant level is the first thing to do. then you need to know what the temp of the coolant is getting to sitting at idle. without a temp gauge, you will need to have a scan tool that reads live data to determine if the thermostat is opening at the right times. you can also feel the upper radiator hose and the lower radiator hose. they should both be equally hot.
