Customer Question

Car displays P0401 code; I took the throttle body off and cleaned it, cleaned all EGR passages, changed spark plugs, and replaced EGR. code still persists. Gas mileages is normal, no hesitation or rough idle.
JA: How many miles are on the car? When did you last change the plugs?
Customer: 92,000 miles, plugs looked like they had 25,000 miles on them.
JA: What is the model/year of your Saturn?
Customer: 1996 SC2, 1.9 liter DOHC engine
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes, have had EGR problems on previous S-series; usually cleaning fixes the problem
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: No

Good Evening. If all the ports are clean and the code persist then you will need to check for a mechanical failure. I will be happy to help you with this. First of all, is the egr valve vacuum operated or is it electrical?
