I have a 3126e...

I have a 3126e with 90,000 miles. Quit running all indications pointed to a bad heui pump. I replaced the heui pump and IAP sencor. Engine fires up and runs for 30 seconds then oil pressure drops to zero then engine quits

2002 Newmar dutchstar. Serial# ***** Engine serial# ***** Oil is changed every Oct with approx 4000 miles annually.

The only problem I have is I’m not getting any engine codes to my dashboard. I’ve owned my own peterbilt’s for 30 years. Any trouble I had with electronic engines I was able to recover the codes from the dashboard. This has got stumped.

Hello Dan. I’m thinking about removing the oil pan to inspect the low oil pressure pump.When I start the engine I get oil pressure for approximately 30 seconds then then the pressure starts to drop then engine quits. It seems that I’m loosing the main oil pressure from oil pan.

I recommend charging the high pressure rail with sharp air pressure through the injection actuation pressure sensor port. See if there are any leaking injector O-rings or leaks around the injectors that would cause your high-pressure oil to drop off. Utilize a 5000 psi gauge in the same port after confirming no leaks to test your pressures while cranking. You should expect to see around 870 psi of injection actuation pressure when cranking and up to around 4000 psi and over 3000 psi with full battery voltage applied to the injection actuation pressure regulator in order to see full pump pressure. This will help determine whether or not you have leaks within the injector O-rings or a faulty pressure regulator . I would also recommend checking for oil pressure around your filter housing for the low pressure side. If you have Jake’s on this engine, remove the valve covers and make sure that there are no excessive oil leaks around your Jake’s or your injectors. I hope you find this information helpful.

One more bit of info. In the month of March I travelled from northern Alberta to Mesa Arizona. I shut off the engine every night and twice the engine did the same thing but would start and stay running after approximately 15-20 minutes. I figured it was do to cold weather. So if I had bad o-rings they would not stop leaking would they. That’s why I’m leaning toward a sticking pressure relieve valve on my oil pump in the oil pan.I have never had a problem starting when engine is at operating temp. Just when cold start. I’m using shell rotella-t 15w40 engine oil. Maybe 15w40 oil is gumming up the pressure relief valve when cold but is ok when oil is at 180 degrees. I’m not disagreeing with your opinion just having a conversation and throwing ideas out.I have read that cat recommends using 10w30 oil. Maybe that’s where I’m making a mistake. Using wrong oil.

Ok Dan. I have been able to pressure test the oil actuation side of my fuel injectors. Went up to 3000psi. Stopped. Pressure dropped to 0psi in approximately 45seconds.
