I have two dometic air conditioner in my rv. They run on a dual thermostat. My
thermostat started giving me an E1 error. Went and picked up a new thermostat
and it does the same thing

This is a fifth wheel camper

I changed the thermostat.

And checked for any broken wires

Good morning,  I'm Bill one of the RV tech experts here at Just Answer.
Thanks for using our service.  The E1 error is indicating lost communication
between the a/c and the thermostat.  I would check all the phone cable
connectors in the ceiling units for the a/c's.  Sometimes moisture can cause a
bit of corrosion in there and they will lose contact.  Here's how to reset the
thermostat:

The system initialization shall be initiated with the thermostat turned “OFF”
(Either a blank display or clock only showing). Simultaneously press and hold
the MODE and ZONE buttons. The LCD will display “IniT” and all available zones.
Release the MODE and ZONE buttons.  Try that and let me know how you make out.

All connections clean and secure in both a/c's?  You may have a bad board in the
main a/c then.  If both a/c's are on the same thermostat then usually the rear
is the master and the front is the slave meaning the tstat signal for the front
air originates from the rear.  Bad board in the rear a/c will knock out both
airs and give the the E1 code.  You can try running a new phone cord through the
trailer directly from the tstat to the rear a/c to insure you don't have a cable
issue.  If it still has the same code after that and a reset of the tstat then I
would suspect a problem in the a/c itself.  You might try pulling the fuse that
powers the tstat and leave it unhooked for a few minutes and then do the reset
prior to powering it up and see if that will clear the error.  You have already
eliminated the tstat so it has to be in the wiring or the a/c itself.  Let me
know.

I forgot to tell you to check the ends on your new phone cord and make sure the
color pattern matches the old cable exactly.  Some phone cords have both
connectors installed the same way and some have them reversed.   Let me know.
