Just purchased a used 2005 Safari Simba with a 4 door fridge…

That is a high temp sensor and when the light is ON it has tripped. Inside the sensor is a reed switch, get a strong magnet and hold it directly on the sensor for about 30 seconds and then you should get a click and the light should go out and then the fridge should power on.

This sensor can go off for low DC voltage OR if you have an issue with the cooling unit, the ammonia solution inside the cooling unit stops circulating, you loose cooling in the box and the fridge will overheat causing the sensor to trip.

What I might do is get a rubber mallet and tap the coils on the back of the fridge before resetting sometimes this will get the ammonia solution going again or driving the RV on bumpy roads, no guaranties in doing that more times then not it is a new fridge or cooling unit.

I suspect with the no cooling and the sensor tripped it is going to be a cooling unit issue. Tap the coils, reset the light and then see if it comes back on if so I would have this looked at.

If you are plugged into power and in auto the fridge should be working on electric. Go to the outside access panel and locate the outlet the fridge is plugged into, make sure it has voltage, the fridge uses DC battery power to turn on so if the outlet does not have voltage the fridge will default to propane, if the outlet has power shut the fridge off, unplug the cord and remove the cover on the circuit board under the outside access panel, on the board are two fuses, one is for the DC side and one for the AC side, if the AC fuse is blown the fridge would default to propane.

You should not hear a compressor, you may hear a fan cycling on and off and the flame from the burner when it is running on propane.

Might have more then one issue with it not working on electric.

yes it would be hot and the coils should feel nice and warm and uniform from top to bottom, give it a few hours on AC and see what happens.

YES a good 8 hours the box should be cold, the freezer will always get cold long before the box has a chance to.

Yes that is the thermistor, on the fin and it does share the light connector. IF you disconnect it what should happen is the fridge should go into a FULL cooling cycle to the point where it freezes the food in the box, you can try moving it up on the fin for colder temps and down for lower temps although there might not be a huge difference.

Heat rises so in order for the fridge to work colder it would have to be up on the fins, cold air sinks so if you want the fridge to slow down the cooling you move it down.

You should have a bout 35-36 in the box and 0 F in the freezer.
