You are likely aware that you can typically get a Residential HVAC Repair person out that Tests Refrigerators or even drive to their shop to have it Tested
Many times you can locate same type or Brand and Model Number for less than Repair of the old one On-Line, Local or Marketplace
Typically it is the Refrigerant or even the pump that goes bad when the fridge sits with no use

That would be best, ***** ***** is nothing to check except the System ON, Temperature and IF the Pump comes ON
The Repair person would need to check that and Pressure to see what it takes to bring it back to normal
