You need to keep in mind the best built RV's can have issues if routine maintenance has not been performed.

Most owners will do an annual service on the chassis, this would be oil, oil filter, fuel filters, lube the chassis check all belts, hoses etc.

From my experience owners that do this service have far less problems down the road, I would be asking for service receipts.

Newmar built a very good solid unit during this time frame not to many problems. As far as engine manufactures that is a toss up. You may find better support on the Cummins as they are still putting engines in the RV application where CAT is not. Cummins has Coach Care facilities that are geared up for the RV owner, they actual also do interior repairs, they are all over the US, I used to work at one.

A few things you might see over times I would check is the exhaust manifold, if it was leaking you would hear a ticking noise in the engine area that gets louder when you are in gear and under a load. The cummins were more suspect to cracked manifolds then the CAT's. I would also drive the unit and check under the transmission and make sure no pink fluid is dripping, once these get around 75K to 100K the output seal on the transmission can start to drip.

Make sure you also do not forget about the roof, I would inspect it and make sure it is clean and all the sealant is not cracked or has voids in it, last thing you want is a leaking roof. I would also have them fill the water tank and run the water pump and check for leaks, sometimes leaks can be very costly.

Newmar is a really good brand, and the Cummins and CAT engines are very reliable IF routine maintenance has been done.
