Allison transmission in a 1997...
Allison transmission in a 1997 Monarch motorhome, tranny model MD 3060 ser #(###) ###-####
When trying to shift from neutral to drive or reverse it emits a steady warning and will not shift, gear requested just flashes and gear indicated stays on -N-.
Sometimes if you shift unit right after starting when cold it will shift and will drive perfect, even when going from drive to reverse
As long as you do not shift into neutral, once you do that yr stuck.
When unit first Towed in I pulled code's from shifter as follows, -d1 4521, d2 4516, d31412, d4 4513, d5 4512, have cleared these and none have returned.
Also know that I'm not in parking brake or main brake lock-out because when it does shift I don't have to be pressing brake or have parking brake released

This may be due to an issue with the transmission range sensor/neutral safety switch sending a false or incorrect signal causing this fault here.I have seen this switch assembly fail before on several Allison transmissions and had to replace it.I would have this switch assembly tested to see if it needs to be replaced.

Thanks' Pete, I have been bringing up codes for tranny through shifter, haven't been able to see data since it has an older cec1 connector.
I ordered a connector yesterday and expect it today. will hopefully be able to get to see some data today, as it is now there are no active codes.

The range sensor/neutral safety switch was a common fault.It is possible yours is faulty needing replaced to correct this here.

Actually, idle speed was to high, after buying a adapter for Allison DOC it showed actual engine rpm was 950-960, dash tach was showing 750, Allison will not shift if over 800 if I'm correct.
