Customer Question
I'm plugged in to...

I'm plugged in to 120v power. However batteries aren't charging. Lights are dim. The ac/heater, microwave, and refrigerator aren't getting power. But, I am getting power to all the outlets.

Mechanic's Assistant: Just to clarify, what are the exact lights you're talking about?

All the inside lighting.

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your RV?

2006 Salem, by Forrest River

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your RV yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes, I've checked the breakers and all the fuses. Seemed ok

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

I think that's it.

That can be the batteries or the converter isn't putting out the correct charging voltage. If you have a small digital multimeter we can do some checking and find out. About $20 or so and easy to use. If the batteries are over 3 years old there is a good chance they may be failing and need replacement. Most places that sell batteries can load test them for you. Be sure and take a photo of the cables so you get them hooked up correctly when you put them back in again. Easy to get this wrong if you don't. All follow ups are included in our one time fee. No time limit.

even though I'm plugged into 120v plug, if the batteries are bad, nothing works?
RV Mechanic: Randall, RVIA Certification replied 6 months ago

Not usually, but it can happen. If the converter is working properly you should still have 12 VDC. Or if you have in inverter/charger you still usually have 12 VDC depending on whose product you have.

How do I test the inverter?
RV Mechanic: Randall, RVIA Certification replied 6 months ago

With a small digital multimeter. About $20 or so at most hardware stores.

Just checking back in to see if you were able to track down a meter so we can do some testing?
