I have a 4 year od frig that does not work. I read 110v ac and 12 v dc coming in but the frig will not come on. Any thoughts

All I have done is check fuses and voltage. It have done this before and then starts up after a few days. Not this time. I am confused as to why it does this.

Hi! My name is ***** ***** I can assist you with this. I may need some additional information from you first in order to give a complete answer.

Are you plugged into shore power or not? Do you have a small digital multimeter for some testing? About $20 or so at most hardware stores and easy to use. That would be the quickest way to track down the problem. I can direct you in this. All follow ups are included in our fee and there is no time limit.

Harder to read, but as long as you can get the correct reading. What is the incoming DC voltage to the rear of the fridge? And when did you last have the LP working pressure checked at the tank regulator?

12 volts. No check on LP pressure.

12 VDC exactly? It should be about 13.7 VDC. How old is the battery?

sorry for the delay, upgraded my meter. reading 9.5 volt at the back of the fridge and reading 12.65 at the battery. batteries are 3 years old.

So you may have several problems. The voltage at the rear of the fridge isn't high enough to run the fridge. It may be a bad converter or blown fuses on the converter or a bad battery or all of the above. Start at the converter and see what it puts out there. You want to see about 13.7 VDC and for sure over 13.2 VDC. A sweep meter is hard to read that close. You may have a bad ground at the fridge or some other issue that is causing you to lose 3 volts between the batteries and the fridge. I would have the batteries load tested to be sure they are still viable. Most places that sell them can do this for you. Those are places to start. There may not be anything wrong with the fridge.

Where do I find the converter and shouldn't the fridge run on 110v even with low dc input?

The converter is dependant on the load center. Give me that make and model and I can direct you in the right area. And no, it won't work at all if the incoming DC voltage is less than 11 VDC.

I meant the load center where all the fuses and breakers are. Most are Magnetek or WFCO.

That is an oldie! No parts for that one. You would have to wire up a new stand alone converter to that. Not sure that is a job for most owners. Are you good with electrical circuits?

Take a DC voltage reading AT the fuses. It should be about 13.7 VDC or close. Under 13.2 VDC is going to be trouble for keeping the batteries charged.

I have 13.5 at the converter and 14+ when on 110 power. These reading were taken at the battery connections on the converter so it seems to be working but I get no voltage across the fuses. I checked the condenser and get no voltage there either but do have e continuity thru the condenser. I have eliminated the fridge as the problem because it works when connected to another 12 volt source. So lack of 12 volts is the problem. but cant find the problem.

Not sure what "'condenser" you would be talking about. I suspect that the points are bad in this and that is why it won't power up the fuse block.

There is what I believe is a condenser in line after the points. The points appear to engage when the 110 is turned on.

It may be a relay, but I don't recall any condenser in there. I am not sure we can wire up around this setup easily. I usually just install a new stand alone converter and hook it in directly to the fuse block.

I would get one by Progressive Dynamics. Part number is ***** and Google that and see who has the best price. Lots of online sources. I can assist you in hooking it up.

Success! The converter is fine. I replaced the positive line feeding the fridge attaching it to another spot on the fuse block and had 13 + volts at the fridge. All appears well. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. The advise was very helpful
