My winnebego rialta 3k generator needs a coil and magneto

Customer Question

my winnebego rialta 3k generator needs a coil and magneto replaced. Is this something I could do, how difficult. Does the generator need to be removed to do this. Thanks, Jim
JA: Okay, I'll connect you to the mechanic to go over that information regarding your RV. Before I do, is there anything else you want him to know?
Customer: I just took it to cummins of Springfield, mo and they diagnosed these items to need to be replaced at a cost of $1250. Does this seem reasonable

Hello, my name is ***** ***** I am going to assist you with this.

What is the full model number of the genset?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
3kvc-83b and with 70 hours would this be reliable
Expert:  Hank F. replied 1 month ago.

With only 70 hours, that thing is not even broken in yet.

On this unit, the coil can easily be changed without pulling the genset, but the magneto is a different story. The magneto is inside the genset. The genset will need to be pulled an torn down for that.

$1250 seems extremely excessive to me. The book gives them 2.2 hours to change the magneto, and 0.7 hours to change the coil. Even with 2 hours R&R, that is still only 5 hours. Even if the parts are $150 (which is high), and figuring $125/hour labor, that should only be about $875.
