Customer Question

1998 Thor Windsport, Generac 00916-0. Was running fine, just died, now just cranks. has fuel, has spark, but I cant tell if the spark is too weak or sufficient. Used a screwdriver from the plug wire to the block to test, since I didn't figure there was enough voltage in that system to use my HEI spark tester. Appears to be a uinveral electric inline pump that replaced the original to try and fix this before I saw it. Its's getting plenty of fuel, maybe too much.

Hi I'm Wayne

I will try to help you with this

did you replace the plug, was the spark good ??

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Replaced. And spark is good.
Expert:  Wayne replied 9 months ago.

Thank you for that

is the plug wet with gas ??

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
The engine is flooded, yes. With the air cleaner of, fuel will splash out of the carburetor.
Expert:  Wayne replied 9 months ago.

OK it is over fueling

the float is not shutting off the gas

or that universal pump that was installed is to much volume

and can not shut off fuel

disconnect wire from pump and dry plug , and see if it will run

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Thank you. I did that and found it to still not start. The pump is a Mr Gasket #42s. It's rated at 2-3.5PSI. Is the carb rated for lower? I'm guessing float issue as well. Would that also explain dying while running?
Expert:  Wayne replied 9 months ago.

Thank you for that

no that is not too much pressure

too little will make it die,

does it just shut down instantly, or slow then die

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
It was running fine and just stopped. Now we are here with the cranks, no start.
Expert:  Wayne replied 9 months ago.

You have Good Spark , Correct

you have good fuel flow,Correct

that should run it , unless a engine issue

low compression, or valve issue

adjust the vales

Intake .015mm Exhaust .020mm

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I don't think valves are our issue just yet. The constant flow and splash of fuel even with the supply line pinched and power pulled still have me leaning to a sunk or failing float.
Expert:  Wayne replied 9 months ago.

If you pinched off the line, no fuel,

that takes out the Float ...........

you have spark/fuel no start , it is valves or low compression

I am not here to see it, you are my eyes

need to check Valves, and then next compression test

Who knows, push rod broke, or piston ring broke,

we need to do the steps

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Okay. Doing the steps.
