Did you check the breakers on the generator? Do you have an automatic transfer switch or do you have to plug the shore cord into an outlet in the storage compartment for the generator to work. They make them both ways.
Then that would be the next thing to test. A small digital multimeter would be needed for that. About $20 or so at most hardware stores and easy to use. I can direct you in some testing.
