This is a newer application that Monaco uses and when they first came out there were some software issues . The engine does provide enough Horsepower and even has more torque compared to a Cummins. It really is important to make sure all the updates are done, they can hook up to the engine data port and see if any service campaigns or updates need to be done. I think there are way more Cummins engines on the road and service will be easier and less expensive then the MaxxForce.
What I would do is drive one model that has a Cummins ISC or ISL and then drive the unit with the MaxxForce and see which one you like best and feels best they should be comparable to each other. There are many happy RV owners with the MaxxForce engines.
Also wanted to mention the best built engines can fail or have problems if routine maintenance has not been done. Most owners will do an annual service which includes oil, oil filter, fuel filters, lube the chassis etc. I would be wanting to see maintenance records to make sure the basics are getting done on the engine and chassis.

Yes there were some issues when they first started using them but if all the repairs have been made then it should not be an issue anymore. IF I was buying a RV I would be looking for a Cummins ISL 400 as they are workhorse and last a very long time. The ISL 400 is comparable to the MaxxForce. Since you have doubts I might at least try and test drive a Cummins and see how you like it...... Robert
