Yes 15w40 oil for diesel has some more additives in it,

it will not hurt your engine

what is the make and model of your genset, Please

I have my customers use Chevron Delo if they can't get or don't want to use the Onan brand oil. About 1.3 quarts on that model.

Your oil fill after a change is 34 Oz of 15w40 Oil

I always suggest Shell Rotella, very good oil and no break down
