Customer: I own a 2001 Monaco Windsor. I added 4 flat solar panels, 80 watts each, and already had a 90 watt panel on top of the coach. Also added two lithium ion batteries. I have a RC7 GS Trace inverter with a RV-30D Charge Controller. When I called Monaco they said it could handle any amount of solar panels I would put on my coach. Now, the Charge controller is reporting batteries chared to 18-22 volts on both coach and engine batteries, and I did get an error message to the effect "battery overload stop charging.' But the voltage meter on the batteries themselves show a charge of 13. 5 volts or so. The over temp light on the charger glows for periods. Do I have a problem? Or is the charge controller handling the events properly?

Hi There....

What I would do is get a volt meter and go directly to the battery and see what the voltage is reporting for both the chassis and house batteries. IF the voltage is normal, the set point for the chassis battery should be 13.4 volts dc, after that voltage is met then it should start charging the house battery, If it is saying 18-22 volts you could have a problem, it should be showing you a charged indication instead of over temp light. I think on this one I would contact the manufacturer to be sure, click HERE for the contact information..... Hope this helps... Robert

The engine battery reads 13.25 and the house battery 13.62. My concern is to know if the charge controller is dissipating the difference through the over temp function? I guess I do need to contact the manufacturer. I thought a tech might know that.

Understand, I would not expect to see that high voltage read out on the controls, so if the batteries are not overcharging then it could be an issue with that controller and there are so many of them out on the market. From my experince it should be reading the same voltage as the batteries. Something could be going on with the controller. Robert
