It sounds like a problem with the transfer switch, if you have one. If you don't have to plug your shore power cord into the generator outlet when running the generator, then you have a transfer switch. It looks like a large junction box and probably sits behind your converter. I expect that may need to be replaced.

Customer reply replied 12 years ago

i will check to see if we have a large junction box. I can tell you that when we are not hooked to electricity we have the electrical cord plugged into an electrical like socket on the inside where it comes out of the RV.

RV Mechanic: Steve F., RVIA Certification replied 12 years ago

Okay, so that means you have no transfer switch.

Does this happen all the time or just when you are plugged into one certain receptacle?

it happens all the time

Can you give me an idea of which ones don't work and which ones do?
Ask Your Own RV Question
Customer reply replied 12 years ago
The one in bathroom, kitchen (2) - do not work nor does the socket outside on my entertainment center. 2 in in living area work.
RV Mechanic: Steve F., RVIA Certification replied 12 years ago
All the ones that don't work are GFCI outlets, and are probably all on the same circuit. If this is the case, they will all be ganged together, so the first one in line may be tripped.
Ask Your Own RV Question
Customer reply replied 12 years ago
i thought that all GFCI outlets had reset buttons on them???
RV Mechanic: Steve F., RVIA Certification replied 12 years ago
Nope, if you have a series of GFCI receptacles on the same circuit, all the downstream ones are protected by the first one in line, so they are just regular outlets.
Ask Your Own RV Question
Customer reply replied 12 years ago
wouldn't a circuit breaker be tripped and be visible that it is tripped?
RV Mechanic: Steve F., RVIA Certification replied 12 years ago

The first GFCI receptacle in the circuit should be tripped. Are you saying that you don't have ANY GFCI receptacles in the trailer? In this case, the breaker in the distribution panel will be GFCI protected.

If you have a GFCI receptacle and it is not tripped, it may be faulty, or have a loose wire.

If you don't have a GFCI receptacle, there may be a problem with the breaker.

At this point, if you have a GFCI receptacle, remove it from the wall and see if there is a loose wire.

Remove the cover from the distribution box and make sure all wires going into the breakers are secure.
Do you have a volt meter or multi-tester?

Good Morning,

To answer your question - yes i have a GFCI receptacle in the coach.

RV Mechanic: Steve F., RVIA Certification replied 12 years ago

Okay, check your GFCI to see if it's tripped. If it is, reset it and test your power (plug your coach into shore power)

If your GFCI is not tripped, we will have to start taking some measurements.
