Hello Steve,

My name is XXXXX XXXXX I am going to try and help with your new AC installation and try to get you going.

I have a few questions to start with.

1. If replacing a coleman with a carrier, is the carrier the ceiling unit with the remote control or did you get the carrier wall thermostat to install?

2. If new thermostat, is it heat/cool or cool only?

I will assume that you have a new remote controlled ceiling pack with wireless remote.

1. The old coleman thermostat, which sounds like a cool only, has the four wires described by you, they are:

Blue = 12VDC - (ground)
Yellow = Cool (compressor)
Green = Low Fan
Gray = High Fan

The new ceiling pack that you have will need to have wiring redone by you or someone else to get everything to work correctly. The wires that you are describing coming the ceiling pack are:

Red = 12VDC + (positive)
Black = 12VDC - (ground)
Blue = Furnace Signal
Blue = Furnace Signal

Your previous air conditioner (coleman) is wired completely different than your new one. I apologize for the sour news. You can use the existing wires that are run to the ceiling pack but you will have to run wiring to where the old thermostat was removed and attach the appropriate power there.

The furnace has two blue wires coming off the external plug that will need to be connected to two of the four wires running to the ceiling unit and then at the ceiling unit, attached to the two blue wires there.

You will have to find a twelve volt positive and run it to the old thermostat location and attach it to an unused wire and then to the red wire at the ceiling unit. Same with the black. Find a 12VDC negative source and run it to the thermostat location (current blue should work but check with an ohmmeter first).

Again, sorry for the sour news but this is the only way to the get the current ceiling unit that you purchased to work correctly.
