my 1996 southwind has leveling...
my 1996 southwind has leveling jacks by Powergear which will not retract    Have talked with company and replaced fuse in dash control panel. Now the claim is I need new control panel(board) mat over 500.00 Any other suggestions?

On your indicator pad is the light coming ON? I assume the pad is dead because they had you replace the fuse? Also do you happen to have any literature on these jacks? IF not I can give you some information, if you do that is still ok...

my operators manual gives 500089 as part no.   the control pad has paet # XXXXX and milwaukee cylinder           pad does light up with jacks down and motor works when asked to go up but will not retract(dump)   also get low voltage light after unit is on maybe 45 seconds   replaced fuse 1.6 AMP For dump valve    checked voltage   reads about 13

Just so I understand The jacks will extend but will not retract? The way I have seen these is when you hit auto to extend the air bags should dump and the jacks should level... Seems like something else might be at fault like a solenoid valve if they are working only one way.. Just want to make sure we are on the same page, hope you don't mind all the questions...

This is amanual touch pad control   when i turn main switch on everything looks normal   when I hit   Retract jacks nothing happens and then low voltage light comes on

Understand.....

 

Not sure if you have THIS but it is a diagram of the fuses.... IF the unit is not overfilled with fluid then the controller very well could be bad. Following the troubleshooting tree, The possible causes are Dump valve fuse blown, Replace fuse XF-2.... System overfilled with fluid..... And pump harness fuse blown... Locate fuse on harness within 18" of pump in the corrugated harness, replace fuse with 10 AMP mini fuse....

 

I can say from working on these the control box failures can be common and they will start do strange things. I would verify all your connections and grounds, make sure there is no corrosion on any of the plugs. The problem you might have on these older control boxes is that an upgrade might have to be done and this would explain the cost... I hope this helps.....

Robert    Thanks but think That I am back to where I started If I need control Eeverything but 10A fuse has been checked, where do I locate one and how doI know for sure before I get one. Sorry slow getting back two days of rain- not fun under neath in rain.

These control boxes are difficult to troubleshoot, it is a process of elimination to get to the point of replacing the box. I am not aware of any special testers for the box. IT appears your control box and pad will have to be changed out because they are obsolete. One thing that leads me to beleive it is the control box is the fact you are getting a low voltage indication when the voltage is good, everything runs through the control box and they will start doing strange things when they fail.. I would try to obtain the new kit directly from power gear if you can... HERE is the directions and some pictures of the new pad and control box...
