Customer: Hello,
I am new to Rv-ing in a 5th Wheel. I was trying to uncouple the trailer from the 5th wheel hitch. While cranking the trailer up, I raised it too far up causing 'lift' pressure on the hitch and truck. Before I could crank back down, the trailer broke loose from the hitch, stripping something in side the 5th wheel landing gear assembly. Now, the crank on the 5th wheel turns freely, without engaging the jacks to lift or drop the legs. What is unusual, is I can take a wrench to the bar that ties the two legs together and manually lift or lower the trailer. I can jack the trailer up or down this way. Are there parts available, or do I have to replace the complete landing gear setup.?

most likely you have broken the gearbox on the motor.. this can be replace, it comes as a motor/gearbox assembly and is a pretty easy install...since both legs move up and down by hand, sounds like the jack legs themselves survived, the motor took the fall it seems..
so a new motor and gear box would be my first part.
as far as your 5th wheel hitch goes.. you have probably bent or broken the slide bar that holds the pin in and down... depending on your hitch, you can sometimes get new parts for these, but on some, you need a new 5th wheel hitch head... i would take that to a dealer that does hitch work and have them inspect it.. you dont want to tow with it until you know its ok, as that could be very dangerous....
